  Carol McKenzie Rex
Board Chairperson

seaforthx@xtra.co.nz

I’m proud to have an intergenerational connection with Clevedon School. My Dad went to school here, as did I, and now my two children attend. This is my first time on the board of trustees, elected in May 2010. It’s a great privilege to Chair a board of such competent and dedicated people.
I work for the Auckland Council as a Local Board Advisor, supporting two boards of elected politicians with strategy and policy advice; drafting submissions, plans and agreements; preparing information on key issues, assisting financial & assets management and community consultation.
My educational background is in horticultural science and environmental management. Other interests include supporting children’s sports teams and being a member of a couple of local groups - Wairoa River Landcare and Clevedon Historical Society.

I worked for eight years in the meat industry as an Export negotiator/trader. During this time I studied at ATI and gained an Export Diploma.

After I married, my husband and I traveled and moved to Jamaica where we set up a Bungy site in conjunction with the Jamaican Tourist Board. We then moved to America and set up more sites.

In 2001 I completed a computing course and qualified as a computer technician. I have been working part time at Maraetai Beach School as their technician for 8 years and sat on their BOT for 3 years. I have been at Clevedon School for 5 years in the library and working on our website.

I am a qualified chartered accountant and member of both the
New Zealand and Scottish Institutes of Chartered Accountants.  I have an honours degree in Accountancy and Computer Science and a post graduate in International Business and Finance.

I trained and qualified with KPMG London.  I was a Vice President within Citigroup’s European Corporate Tax Department and more specifically Deputy Head of Citigroup’s European Corporate Tax Department’s Securities Taxation Team.

In NZ, I have worked with KPMG Auckland and during that time was seconded to one of NZ’s major banking groups in a tax advisory capacity.  Now that I am working locally, my current role is in providing taxation, accounting and business advisory services to a broad range of clients.  This includes (but is not limited to) assisting clients with the day to day running and management of their businesses, advising them on how to structure transactions, reviewing key contracts and ensuring all compliance and regulatory obligations are met.

My husband Darryl and I have lived in Clevedon for 7 years and have two children at Clevedon School.

I have over 20 years experience working in the finance and banking industries with qualifications in Business and Marketing.  My most recent position was with AMP, initially as a consultant for their Banking division then later as their NZ Marketing Manager Banking.

Specifically some of my work experience has included such things as Risk Management, Marketing and Communications, Finance, Strategic Planning, Change Management and Development and implementation of culture within organisations.  I am experienced in managing senior staff in large corporate environments with the associated financial and personnel responsibilities.

Most of my time now is spent running a busy household, a farm and when time allows gardening.  In addition to this the children are busy most nights with sports leaving just enough time for BOT responsibilities.
