  Julie Schumacher
Principal

My family and I have lived in South Auckland all our lives. Philip and I have three children. Olivia, 21, has just completed a Commerce/Marketing degree, Gretta, 19, is completing her second year of Law and Dominic, 18, is about to sit NCEA Level 3.
I have taught in a variety of schools throughout Auckland. Over the last eighteen months I have worked alongside Professor John Hattie at the University of Auckland and prior to that I led the Year 7/8 Department at Baradene College in Remuera.
My previous role was one of leading professional development for teachers around implementing our revised New Zealand Curriculum and the National Standards. I have also spent time in New Zealand, Australia and throughout Asia presenting with John Hattie on his research about raising student achievement. It is a passion of mine to assist teachers in ensuring that our students are both progressing and achieving to their potential across the curriculum.

Nicola Venables - Room 2
Kowhai Team Leader

Hi, I’m Nicky Venables and this is my first year teaching at Clevedon School. My teaching career spans over 25 years. My last teaching position was at Auckland Normal Intermediate where I was a team leader in both the year 7 and 8 level. I have a good understanding of the young adolescent; they are enthusiastic with a desire to learn. I have a passion for teaching mathematics and critical thinking.
I live in Mt Eden and have two children, Matthew, 23, who is completing his Commerce Degree this year after taking time out from study to travel and try others things and Louise, 21, who has recently completed her Bachelors in Business Management and is currently working in Brisbane. Thankfully her job sends her to Auckland occasionally. Getting use to driving to Clevedon each morning is definitely a challenge. However, once I reach the countryside the stress of the city traffic seems to drop away.
I anticipate an exciting year ahead and look forward to working with the students, parents and staff at Clevedon School to build a positive learning community for all.

Marama Crosby - Room 3

I am really pleased to be here teaching at Clevedon School.  I have just returned from two years travelling in Europe and teaching in the United Kingdom.   I embrace modern technology in teaching and learning, and strive to inspire and engage my students.  I am really looking forward to an amazing year with my class and the intermediate team.  In my personal time I love to read, listen to music and go to the beach.
The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called "truth."  ~Dan Rather

 Keren Copeland - Room 5

I am very exciting to be teaching at Clevedon this year.  I grew up in a small rural school in Southland and love being back in a country school again.  I have come from a large urban multi cultural school in Howick where I have been for the last six and a half year teaching Year 3 and 4 students.  I am looking forward to the challenge of teaching Year 7s this year.  I have a real passion for sports and I look forward to organising and running sports competitions.

Carly Kidd - Room 6
Kauri Team Leader

Karen Davies - Room 8

I seem to be "part of the furniture" here as I have been involved in the school for many years - beginning as a reliever and part-timer when my children were at the newly opened creche in Clevedon! They are now in their early twenties! I have taught years 5/6 here, originally teaching at a New Plymouth Intermediate and at the newly built Weymouth Intermediate for 4 years.

I am now Lead teacher of the Senior school and am thoroughly enjoying the daily challenges, variations and rewards each day brings - there is never a dull moment here at Clevedon School and I still "get a buzz" from working at such a cool school.

Samuel Kett - Room 9

I am relatively new to teaching. I will have finished my 2 years as a beginning teacher in July 2012 having done 6 months teaching at Red Hill Primary in 2009.
I enjoy working with children of all ages and I am currently teaching year 5 and 6’s in Room 17. I believe in offering a wide variety of learning experiences from across the entire curriculum and I also think it is important to encourage students’ to give as many things a go as possible. I try to identify students’ strengths and help them get the most out of these. One thing I found challenging yet exciting about being a teacher is that we never stop learning.
I have played sports all my life. I play Cricket for Karaka Prems and have got the occasional call up to the Counties Senior Men’s team which I hope to make a more regular thing (if I can get some runs under my belt). I am also really passionate about Rugby League and have represented Papakura Sea Eagles in the Auckland Fox Memorial Competition.
I am also involved in music and am currently recording a couple of records which will be released this year. I travelled through Europe last year playing shows and I feel that all the experiences I have had and continue to involve myself in, help me to become a better teacher.

Tracey Sholson - Room 10
Pohutukawa Team Leader

I am currently a teacher in the Junior Department at Clevedon School.  I have taught at a variety of levels and enjoyed them all.  My passion is promoting children to be responsible for their learning.
I have come to teaching later in life after working as a social worker and an early childhood educator, working particularly with children with disabilities.  Teaching however, was a childhood dream and the passion and enthusiasm I have for teaching tenfold by the students I have been fortunate enough to teach.

Rachel Baker - Room 11

I am now in my second year of teaching at Clevedon School.  This year I have moved into Room 11 with a fantastic group of Year 3 and 4 students.  Before beginning teaching I was living in London on my O.E for 3 years and working in a large advertising agency.  While overseas, I travelled extensively through the U.K, Europe, Asia and South America.  In my spare time I like to run, go camping at the beach, ride horses, read and cook delicious vegetarian food.  I am thoroughly enjoying the challenges, opportunities and personal rewards that teaching offers. This year I am looking forward to inspiring my class to be life-long passionate learners.

Scott Cooper - Room 12

I have been teaching at Clevedon School since last century,
and still get a big buzz coming to work every day.

I continue to value the opportunities to work with young people
and make a difference where and whenever I can.
I also enjoy being able to carry out my passions of conservation and e-learning.
How great to be able to pursue these passions AND  get paid as well.

My parents used to say "Keep on keeping on". . .
and that's just what I plan on doing.

Liz Singh - Room 14
Totara Team Leader

I am  the Team Leader of the Totara Team who have the responsibility to provide programmes that give Year 0 -3 students the opportunities to create a strong foundation that can be built on as they progress through the school system.
Teaching is one of my passions especially the Year 0 /1 level. Each day in the classroom brings wonder, laughter, challenges and learning for my students and me. There is never a dull day. I feel privileged to be able to teach most students as they start Clevedon School and I enjoy seeing them mature into young adults. I think I have the best job in the school, maybe the world.

  Chantal Selby - Room 15

I feel very blessed to be teaching at Clevedon School. The community is friendly and vibrant, and the natural surroundings are breathtaking.
I have lived and taught in various areas of Auckland since 2000, when I emigrated from South Africa. Having taught all levels from New Entrants to Year 7’s, I have gained valuable experience in meeting the diverse needs of learners.
My daughter also attends Clevedon School, and is equally grateful to be part of such a special community.
I love the outdoors, and being in touch with nature. I find great enjoyment in walking and swimming. I also love to read, with a particular interest in philosophy.

 Glenice Bullen - Room 16

I come from a tradition of teachers and gardeners. A common analogy of teaching and learning is tending a garden. There are essential cycles, seasons and growth ingredients needed. I believe as parents we want our children to be happy and to feel good about themselves, develop healthy relationships and grow to contribute in some way to life and society.

For me learning is lifelong and it is the school of life and I think we learn best through having fun with the right mix of challenge and scaffolding. We all want to love and be loved, be understood and understand and to choose and be chosen. To be a fully autonomous, well balanced, contributing individual is the goal and the journey.   Enter to Learn and Go Forth to Serve has always for me had very deep and profound meaning.

I have National Playcentre training, many years of NE experience and taught all ages in primary schools. I have represented NZEI for many years as Papakura Branch Secretary

Lauren Clough - Room 17

From a very young age I have always had a passion for children and teaching, so I decided to carry out my dream and complete my Bachelor of Education at the University of Auckland.
I feel very lucky and honoured to have been given my first teaching position in a year 1/2 class at Clevedon Primary.
I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my teaching career – not only the community, children and staff but the beautiful surroundings to.
As a life-long learner my goal is to work alongside children and help them to achieve to their highest potential in all school areas.
I have always had a variety of interests but I particularly enjoy the outdoors, dancing, travelling, cooking and spending time with friends and family.

 Sarah Newbould - Room 18

This is my third year teaching at Clevedon School, and I have returned after a few months Maternity Leave.
This year I am teaching a Year 1/2 class, and am looking forward to being part of the Totara Team for a second year.
My main passion is literacy, and I am seeking to enthuse my students in this area in particular this year.
I am excited about the year ahead, and am looking forward to sharing a year of learning with my class.

Judith Frear

I have enjoyed a long association with Clevedon School (over 26 years). I have worked in a permanent position with New Entrants for 10 years before easing back to relieving and regular Teacher release.
Out of school I spend time with family and travel as often as I can to see my grandaughters in England.

Carol Kimpton

I have taught at Clevedon School since my youngest daughter enrolled aged 5 in 1989. I worked permanently for 12 years - half of that time being senior teacher of the junior department. Since, I have been helping out in long term relieving, part-time and day to day positions which I thoroughly enjoy. It is great to work in a school environment and at the same time challenge my own learning (especially in the ICT area!!!!)

Cheryl Wilkinson

Throughout my lengthy teaching career I have taught at various schools throughtout the North Island. Now I love teaching (and learning) at Clevedon School.
Most of my teaching experience has been in the Junior area of the school. I believe it is extremely important to provide children with a solid foundation on which to build the rest of their education.
I have always loved teaching and feel fortunate to be working at something that I am so passionate about.
To relax I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling, gardening, reading and watching sport. Maraetai is such a lovely place to live with the beach and walkways there is always plenty to do. I have the most beautiful drive to work every day!

Heather Chapman

I have had association with Clevedon School since 1976 when my son started his schooling here, and since 1991 have been a member of staff. My job over that time has primarily been as the Reading Recovery teacher with responsibility for children who need extra support for their learning (SENCO).
I also have opportunity to be involved in music and have led many choirs over the years as well as taking classroom music.
I have been fortunate enough to work within my areas of passion in my years at Clevedon School; working with children to assist them reach their full learning potential particularly in reading, and making music.

Annie Forgie - Te Reo
Ko  Kahuranaki te maunga, Ko Tukituki te awa,
Ko Kahungunu te iwi
I have been teaching at Clevedon School since 2007 when our whanau moved here from the Coromandel. Originally a secondary art and art history teacher, I have really enjoyed the range of teaching opportunities I have had at Clevedon. I am currently studying te reo Maori for my third year at Te Wananga o Aotearoa, and so I am excited to be teaching te reo Maori weekly with all classes at the school, learning and developing my language understanding alongside my students.
