Specialisation-Deep Learning

Extra curricular Activities

Staff offer children dance, choir, sport and kapa haka activities at lunch time.

By using the expertise of the staff we are able to cater for the needs of children who have an aptitude in a particular area. These children are withdrawn from the class to participate in the group activity. Science, writing, technology, ICT, instrumental and vocal groups, mathematics, and art are some of the areas.

Specialist teaching

We provide many opportunities for selected groups of students to develop their talents. Eg Kapa Haka, Science, Technology, Dance, Environmental Studies, Drama, Problem Solving, Debating.

Agriculture Day

One of the major events of the school’s calendar is Agriculture Day. All children participate in, indoor exhibits – cooking, floral and art and craft. A number of children raise calves, kids, lambs and chickens which are judged. Cups and trophies, ribbons and badges are awarded. All students participate in a day focused on our rural culture. Dressup, animal raising and classroom based work are all featured in this day.

Trees For Survival

For the past 10 years we have participated in this annual Conservation project. Students raise up to 1000 native tree seedlings, prick them out and pot them on, developing them from 5 cm seedlings to young saplings often over 40cms tall. They are then transplanted to local erosion prone planting sites.Recently the TFS team have joined the world wide Billion Trees project - Plant for the Planet. NZ has pledged a million trees to this campaign, and we aim to add 1200 more trees as our contribution to this target.
